What is Evidence Network?
Our Aims
 |
To provide a focal point for those
who are interested in evidence based policy and practice (EBPP)
to access useful information and resources |
 |
To provide a forum for debate and
discussion on EBPP issues |
 |
To contribute to capacity-building
in the skills required for EBPP |
 |
To explore EBPP issues through
research and consultancy activities |
How We Started
Evidence Network has developed over the past five years in response
to a decision in 1999 by the Economic
and Social Research Council that a major initiative was needed
to bring social science research much nearer to the decision making
process. Funding of £3 million over three years was allocated
in 2000 for a national co-ordinating Centre and a network of research
Nodes that made up the initial Evidence Network. With further
funding since 2003, the Network has grown substantially through
the Centre's Associate programme, and some 900 researchers, practitioners
and policy makers world-wide had joined by October 2005.
The majority of the eight Evidence Network Nodes completed their
research programmes by Spring 2005. The ESRC has allocated further
core funding to support the on-going development of the Centre's
Evidence Network website as a focal point for the wider EBPP community,
while other Centre activities such as research and capacity-building
will henceforth be funded from a range of sources.
On 1st November 2005 Evidence Network moved from its base in
the Department of Politics, Queen Mary, University of London to
the School of Social Science and Public Policy, King's College
London.
What We Do

and useful resources for tracking
down social science evidence and expertise |
 |
Encourage communication
within the growing EBPP community through the website-based
Associate scheme |
 |
Help to build essential EBPP skills
through the provision of training in information retrieval
and the appraisal and synthesis of evidence |
 |
Contribute to the knowledge base
on EBPP issues through Centre research
and consultancy activities, and an associated
publication programme |
 |
Provide a forum for debate and
